Hi guys. How to create a cohesive color flow throughout your home is key to any project. Doing this in the following ways, does the trick and depends solely on your preference:
Pick a flow through palette
Look to see which rooms are visible from the entrance hall. This is where you can start to create a color flow throughout your home.Choose a color that is either a variant of one color or choose colors that work well together. This rule also applies to the open plan living space. Check paint samples at your local hardware store to see which colors work well together or refer to our post ‘Lets talk Colors,’ and consult the color wheel.
Select color groups
Another manner in which a color flow is created, is by choosing a color and pairing it with variants of that same color. A refreshing twist is painting the ceiling at least 3 shades lighter than the actual wall color. This rule applies to all decor accessories as well.
Have samples of your base color variants mixed up and paint a square to see whether the mix works for you.

Another option is to decide on a warm or cool palette.
Warmer tones of orange, reds and yellow…

or, cooler tones such as grays, greens and blues.
Accessorize with Bold colors
An injection of bold colors can be introduced by way of accessories. This is interchangeable and affordable.
Tie your rooms together with accents
Being consistent creates continuity. This doesn’t mean that you should use the same color throughout your home. For example, you decide on a blue and gray palette for the living room, the gray being the accent color. Consider using the grey accent as the main color with the blue as the accent. A variant of the blue can become the main color in the bedroom with the gray and blue as the accents. There is no limit to the combinations you can achieve yet still maintaining continuity.
Lastly, use the 60-30-10 formula
Having chosen a base color which will comprise 60%, choose an accent color for a wall or rug amounting to 30% of the space The remaining 10% can be used for accessories, like pillows or ottomans, in an accent color. This can be carried throughout the home by changing the base color and applying the formula.
These are a few insightful thoughts as to how to go about selecting your color palette. Still unsure, we suggest you consult with an interior designer who studies color and can guide you on decorating or remodeling.
Well, we hope you feel inspired and a little less fearful of that next project. See you soon, and remember, leave your comments, we love hearing from you
