Hi guys Working with fabrics everyday, I cannot help trying to convey the incredible excitement I feel when visiting a fabric store. Obviously I cannot buy all the fabrics that I fall in love with. So I ask for little cutting / samples. Having collected a huge haul of cuttings, I have resorted to creating mood boards, just as a little fun pastime.
What are mood board, you ask? Well, to dumb it down, it is a collage of the objects and / or pictures that convey a look and feel of a room, you wish to redo. You can also refer to it as an inspiration board. Once completed, it also serves as an overview of the final feel of a room.
There are 2 ways to create these mood boards. Digitally and physically. I would strongly suggest you create one for each room you are redoing.

Digitally:
Create boards on Pinterest, for each of the rooms you wish to redesign. Remember, that although Pinterest has a wealth of inspiration, don’t limit yourself by only drawing inspiration from that source. Visit as many home decor sites and expand your choice.
Pinterest has a plugin that allows pics from other sites to be imported.
When looking for inspiration, look out for images of Color, for your floors and walls. Images for Patterns, for your fabric, wallpaper or rugs. Images of Furnishings, for your new sofa, tables, end tables etc. And finally images of Home decor, for your style of cushions, vases, mirrors etc
Collect only images of the styles and objects that speak to you. More is better.
But… Having said that, remember not to over pin, regularly revising your pins. Having to many images can confuse you and split your focus.
Take an hour or two a week to sort through the images you’ve collected / pinned. Take note of the styles, colors etc that keeps popping up or reoccurring. Remember to delete any images that don’t speak to you.
Digital mood boards are great because they are easier to refer to when consulting your interior designer, or simply refer back it for inspiration when the task is seemingly impossible. It is compact and can be taken anywhere.

Physical Mood Boards
This an excellent way to experience the raw texture and brilliance of color of all the elements in you proposed scheme.
Once again, create a board for each room. Remember, here we will be collecting items that will be a window into the types of textures that your rooms will hold.
Start with a board, a blank page in a book or any clear or textured surface.
Collect bits of wood for the floors. Cuttings of fabric for curtains and soft furnishings. Any object from stone to leaves, anything that will convey the feel of the room.

In this example above, the wood coaster represents the color of the floor. The fabrics are examples for the re-up of the sofas and chairs. The fabrics can also be used for the makeup of the scatter cushions.
The green foliage depicts the wall color and the sample carpet, that form the base of this mood board, the rug. The rawness of the wood and the fibers of the paintbrush conveys the style of the new end tables and lamps.

In this example, the color of the leaf represents the color of the walls, the stone, the color for the floor. The metal clip represents the frames of the coffee and end tables. The fabric design will change as the stock is limited. But the color is set, so another design can easily be found.
These are only an few example of how to put your mood board together. As I mentioned before, use any item / object if it accurately represents the color or the texture of the items you wish to surround yourself with.
Well that is it from me, remember to have fun. Let us know what you think by leaving us a comment or send us a pic of you mood board.
See you soon
